Last month Google introduced Instant - this is when you go to www.google.co.uk and start typing your search criteria, it automatically starts to fill the page with possible results and the page continues to change as you type. I think it's a handy improvement to the ever-changing world-dominating search engine but you may not agree. So if you want to switch it off then go to your Google preferences page and edit the setting. It will be automatically turned off if you have a slow internet connection and it's not yet available on mobiles.
